For 2022, we pledged to make some more sustainable swaps and we’ve been trying some of the recommendations we shared last month. One of our favorite swaps is the EQUO straws which are great for everything from getting through your chunky morning smoothie to preserving your lipstick whilst singing Tom Collins.

EQUO’s reusable straws are a great way to avoid single-use plastic as they’re made from natural ingredients, such as coconut and sugarcane. They don’t go soggy in the way that the paper straws tend to and take a really long time to dissolve, so they can be reused many times.

We’ve been using them daily. The grass straw one feels a little bit brittle so you feel like you have to use it carefully but so far our favorite has been the rice straw. It’s bigger than the others, feels most like a plastic straw in terms of sturdiness, plus feels sturdy in the mouth, we definitely prefer these to plastic straws! The sugarcane straw is also a pretty good swap as it also has the sturdiness of a plastic straw although we’re a little gutted it doesn’t taste sweet!

Straws have received a bit of bad press in the world of sustainability and also were one of the first single-use plastic swaps, becoming something that people would just buy because they were sustainable but would never end up using. However, if you’re a regular straw user, these are brilliant for everyday use.

For $11.99, you can shop EQUO straws at shopequo.com and on Amazon.
