Happy Earth Day! In honor of the day dedicated to our dear planet, let’s celebrate some brands that help protect our planet daily. Many brands make promises to be more sustainable, but what brands are acting on these promises? To pay homage to Mother Earth, look at brands doing their part in protecting our planet.

Allbirds

Allbirds prides itself on its dedication to sustainability, with Mother Nature as its muse. The New Zealand-based sneaker company runs on simplicity in design, confidence in comfortability, and exclusivity in using natural resources. Allbirds’ sustainable practices have always been at the company’s core since its foundation, and they continue to strive towards sustainability as they grow. The sneaker company has committed to cutting its carbon footprint in half by 2025 and entirely reducing its carbon footprint to zero by 2030, which has inevitably influenced its decision-making regarding manufacturing. Allbirds use natural materials like wool, tree, sugar, and trino, a eucalyptus tree and merino wool blend, to combat climate change. Their commitment to carbon neutrality is backed by an in-depth approach and varying priorities, contributing to the brand’s more significant obligations. Allbirds hold themselves accountable for their progress by reporting on notable changes or advancements with their obligations. If you are looking for sustainable sneakers, Allbirds is a great option for you and the planet.

Parade

https://yourparade.com/pages/sustainability

Parade is straightforward about admitting its contribution to negative environmental impacts as part of the fashion industry. Just as clear is their actionable plan to be climate positive by 2025. Within this plan, Parade promises to manufacture its products with 100% bio-based and renewable materials. While this sounds quite the feat, especially since we are already four months into 2023, the company’s products are made of 80%-95% recycled materials. Parade’s focus on more intention and less waste makes me believe that the brand will achieve its 2025 goal to divert 100% of corporate and factory waste from landfills. We are supposed to switch out our underwear every few months, so consider buying from Parade for your sustainable pantie needs.

The Girlfriend Collective

The Girlfriend Collective’s commitment to sustainability within the athleticwear space becomes quite evident in their product materials: post-consumer water bottles, fishing nets retrieved from the seas, fabric scraps, and other waste. As an ethically manufactured company, the Girlfriend’s Collective has coined the term “slow fashion,” which their practices opposing pollution certainly qualify them for. Besides using recycled materials, The Girlfriend Collective and their factories are SA8000 certified by Social Accountability International, guaranteeing ethical conditions and sustainable factory practices. Not only that, but they also use 100% recyclable packing, produce plastics free of BPA chemicals, and work with eco-friendly dyes. Their eco-friendly practices become quite evident after only a few minutes of reading the Sustainability section of their website. In addition to learning about their straightforward sustainability initiatives, I also learned about clothing manufacturing in general, too. Did you know that almost all synthetic activewear is made from plastic? Neither did I until I read so on The Girlfriend Collective’s website. Overall, The Girlfriend Collective’s products and practices make them among the best sustainable clothing brands to shop with.
