“In a year of getting out and about, seeing and being seen, and many more uploads to our social media profiles than the years before, 2022 saw a plethora of new (and returning) hair and beauty trends. People had salons and stylists working hard from the February” butterfly cut” (soft wispy top layers blended into longer lengths) to the summer of lobs and bobs. And, with over 4 billion views on TikTok, #hairinspo looks set to bring us new trends in 2023.

Here are our predictions for 2023’s trendiest hairstyles.

French Girl Bobs: Nothing new here, but the return of Emily in Paris on Netflix can only make this more desirable. Think loose, free, and bouncy, not the harsh straight bobs of winters past.

“Shaggy Mullet, aka”Top Shag”: Rough short layers with billowing longer locks; add loose bangs for an extra shag. This trend from 2022 is here to stay. “Shaggy Mullet, aka “Top Shag”: Rough short layers with billowing longer locks; add loose bangs for an extra shag. This trend from 2022 is here to stay.

70’s Vibes: We’re not done with the dopamine dressing nor the 70’s waves yet. From big blow-dry moments to more subtle rounded curls, style it your way!

Framing Curls: One for the naturally curly girls, embracing semi-styled curls that frame the cheekbones and brow line to serve texture and sophistication, a versatile style that will go with any fashion look.

Short Afros: Trimmed to 1-2.5 inches, short Afros offer low maintenance styling and are adaptable, giving a sleek and sophisticated through to a fun and punchy.

Choppy Lob: There’s never really a season when lobs aren’t in, but for 2023 they’re going to be layered and windswept, giving volume and ferocity (and perhaps a little less time in the mornings…  but worth it, right?)
