Miami Swim Week, dedicated entirely to swimwear and resort wear brands, is the opportunity to discover designers both new and old, serving up swimwear looks for all your summer (and winter) adventures. Style Editor Ikponmwosa Edorisiagbon headed out from New York City to the beautiful beaches of Miami to gather all the inspiration we need for the new season. We met Jill Palese, Founder of Call to Action Clothing at their stall at the Moxy Hotel. Jill launched the Call To Action Clothing brand just two and a half months before Miami Swim on May 21st, 2022. This swimwear brand is simultaneously supporting women’s bodies and the environment by designing long-lasting garments that have as minimal impact on the planet as possible. Swimwear is notoriously short-lived, due to the conditions in which it is worn – exposed to salt, chlorine and SPF – and the nature of the garment – stretchy and close fitting – it’s difficult to maintain the quality of the garment over time. Jill and her co-founder, Dan, have designed every single piece to be comfortable, versatile and most importantly, eliminate waste. Call to Action Clothing looks at environmental sustainability from every part of the process, from design through to production to wear, at each step striving to reduce the use of water, energy, chemicals and waste and partnering with suppliers that share their values.
“We have no more room left on this planet for unsustainable clothing.” – Jill Palese
The C2A Clothing range covers functional two pieces that can be worn plainly as swimwear, but with all top pieces being complementary with shorts, pants or skirts as a daytime outfit too. At Miami Swim Week, C2A collaborated with the organization Everybody Water with whom they collaborated on the multifunctional “Bond Belt” which is now available for preorder. This collaboration came about between friends for a common cause: water sustainability. The Everybody Water product is a carton alternative to a plastic bottle of water, reducing the amount of plastic waste on our planet which we know makes its way into our oceans. Everybody Water’s mission is to support clean water infrastructure projects that bring running water, sinks and toilets into people’s homes for the first time in their lives. This mission aims to directly improve the lives of particularly women and girls who often spend time collecting and fetching water instead of working for additional income or attending school, and many of whom do not have sanitary menstrual hygiene facilities even at home. The C2A and Everybody Water Bond Belt collab will aid those projects, whilst providing a super functional yet chic utility belt for all the busy women out there.
