New York Fashion Week has infiltrated Brooklyn. Several designers presented their collections in BK this season. I was fortunate enough to be key hair, and makeup for Real Is Rare’s NYFW debut, which took place in Downtown Brooklyn. As someone who has been doing shows for over nine years, this was my very first time witnessing one brand open up for another designer at a show. Real is Rare was the opening show for Richie Rich’s return to NYFW, and I must say, it was pretty awesome! Real is Rare is a streetwear brand with personality, so it was only fitting that the beauty matched, and the look is super easy to recreate.
Vitamin C Oil Essence
The brand is so effortlessly cool that the designer wanted to keep the makeup relatively simple with statement eyes. We did a thorough skin prep using Unnaturally Natural skin care. Beautiful makeup starts with hydrated,healthy-looking skin, so we began by using their Treatment Lotion, followed by their Vitamin C Oil Essence, and Hydrate Rescue Cream. We used a nude shade of shadow from lid to brow bone and accentuated the eyes with rhinestones. Each model got a different gem design depending on the pieces they wore and their eye shape. We wanted the girls to look fresh, so we finished the look with blush and a nude lip.

As for the hair, we decided to have a bit of fun. Since the 90s have influenced beauty trends lately, we decided to give the models high ponytails with flipped ends. The look was achieved by slicking the hair up to the crown of the head, using amika fluxus touchable hairspray to tame all flyaways. We then used blockade to protect the models hair from heat damage before curling the ends upward to create the flip with amika le marcel irons. We completed the look by misting top gloss shine spray on the hair for luster.
