Impact and innovation in the beauty world were celebrated on December 7, 2023, as the Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) hosted this year’s annual Beauty Inc. Awards at the Rainbow Room in New York City. Beauty industry members congregated to recognize and honor this year’s notable performers.
One of the outstanding honorees, Selena Gomez, founder and owner of Rare Beauty, won the Pete Born Impact award. Jenny B. Fine, Executive Editor of Beauty at WWD and Beauty Inc. stated “…it became clear that there was no one more deserving of our highest honor than Selena Gomez, who personifies the purpose-driven entrepreneurial spirit that is animating the beauty industry today.”
Selena Gomez expressed her feelings and sentiments on the success and creation of the Rare Beauty cosmetic brand “I definitely feel very humbled by the success of Rare… the most important thing from the beginning of creating this brand was to have a positive impact in the beauty space — to create a brand that would just allow you to embrace who you are, and not necessarily lead people to look a certain way in order to reach ‘perfection.’ Creating the mental health impact fund through Rare — that, to me, is body, mind, and soul.”
Several others were awarded for their influence in the beauty realm. Patrick Ta, makeup artist and founder of Patrick Ta Beauty, won the Creative Force of The Year award. The Influencer of the Year award was accepted by beauty blogger Monet McMichael. Danessa Myricks, makeup artist, founder, and CEO of her company Danessa Myricks Beauty, received the Product of The Year Award in the makeup category for her Groundwork Defining Neutrals Palette.
Many winners showed their gratitude and excitement for the awards on their socials. Events like these demonstrate and remind us of the progress being made in the industry for attitudes toward inclusivity and acceptance for all beauty lovers.
