Fall/Winter 2022 Vancouver Kids Fashion Week officially began on April 9 in Vancouver, B.C., evoking awes and applause from audiences as kids designers showcased their latest collections. With designers from Mexico and Canada, their vibrant and friendly designs were met with marvellous reception.

PK BEANS, a grassroots company based in Richmond, British Columbia, set out to create clothes for children to easily play in, so by showcasing these unique designs, audiences were able to reminisce back to their childhood years. Designer Traci Costa captivated the runway with stylish monotone sweaters and whimsically patterned dresses. Traci utilized a floral palette of bright pinks, earthy greens, and blues.  Model’s floral headpieces added a layer of fantasy and nature to a line dedicated to comfort, durability, and style.

Nolo Mx‘s emergent designer Luis Corrales, better known as Manolo, showcased iconic pieces of clothing with a lot of different materials and shapes, detailed with chain and ribbon embellishments. The designs in the show mainly included oversized street style paired with playful use of vivid, monotone colors such as neon greens, blues and blacks.

Goodbuyandhello, an upscale kids consignment boutique located in Yaletown, Vancouver, hit the runway where models paired reflective silver skirts with woolen blazers and thick plaid skirts with animal-inspired accessories. The collection stunned with cheeky accessories, layering neutral colors such as brown, white, and pale green. Designs displayed an elevated blend of the preppy and the playful, creating a formal line for kids while still honouring their childish hearts.

VKFW is a two-day fashion event dedicated to children’s fashion and creativity. The ever-growing talent in youths was the inspiration driving the launch of this new platform, with the ultimate goal to highlight and leverage kids designers on an international scale. VKFW has partnered with BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (BCCHF) in an effort to recognize the children in need. A few of the highlights from this event will feature a recovered patient of the BC Children’s Hospital strutting the catwalk as a model, as well as live dance performances. Moreover, various workshops have been planned to introduce children to the fashion industry and to help children foster their creativity.
