NYFW September 2022, Andrew Kwon debuted his eponymous ready-to-wear eveningwear collection for Spring/Summer 2023 at the luxurious Baccarat Hotel.
Though Kwon has presented on the bridal calendar in the past seasons, this is his first time presenting during New York Fashion Week. The collection’s presentation fused an eclectic mixture of live models and mannequins while dreamy music played in the background of the elegant space.
The Colorado native recalls his first flight, in the 7th grade, where he looked out the window and was instantly mesmerized by the lights and the grids he saw while preparing for his landing in Los Angeles; to this day, that experience still inspires his work. The collection is called “Reverie,” Kwon explains that the title represents being lost in your own daydream, as he describes himself as a perpetual dreamer.
The glam for the presentation was simple yet stunning. The models had their hair pulled back in a simple chignon, and the makeup was subtle yet impactful. Glowing skin, defined brows, and a nude lip always looks expensive. I am always a fan of allowing the model’s natural beauty to shine through. This way, the beauty does not compete with the gown. The goal is for them to work harmoniously together.
The gowns are perfect for anyone who wants to shine on the red carpet. Andrew reflected on an early memory of seeing Nicole Kidman on a red carpet during a Chanel No. 5 TV commercial, having a full-fledged fashion moment. Something about the red carpet instantly appealed to him, and he knew he had to be a part of it.
His debut Fashion Week collection consists of some of the most beautiful and intricate fabrics and features 3D florals – which have become an Andrew Kwon signature. All the pieces in the collection were paired with footwear by Manolo Blahnik.
