What I love most about the beauty industry is that the trends are ever-evolving, but I never would have thought I would see the day when hot glue would be used as makeup. One of the latest viral trends on TikTok is the hot glue eye makeup look – good old Gen Z never disappoints! The hot glue is used to create a 3-D graphic liner. A hot glue gun creates abstract shapes on a metal palette for this beauty trend. Once the glue shapes you create are cooled down (trust me, you don’t want to touch it until it’s completely cool), a pigment color of your choice is applied all over the glue pieces before placing it on your eye to create multi-dimensional eyeliner. At first, I gave this trend a side eye, but after seeing the abstract makeup looks created using this technique, I thought I’d give it a shot.
I took myself down to Home Depot and bought a glue gun for under $15; I didn’t trust myself not to mess it up, so I got some additional glue sticks just in case. A definite learning curve involved; I burnt myself twice *ouch*, but once I got the hang of it, it was actually fun. The beauty is that every piece you create will be a little different, so the fun is in the inconsistency and piecing together the shapes. I wore my glue makeup out to have drinks with a friend, and everyone stopped me and asked me how I did it. It’s a conversation starter, and when you tell people it’s hot glue, their jaws drop! I might be adding the trusty glue gun to my makeup kit now.
