A sustainable lifestyle consists of a lifestyle that attempts to lower a person’s reliance and use of the planet’s natural resources. Also known as ‘net zero living’ or ‘earth harmony living,’ living sustainably is beneficial not only for the Earth but also for oneself. Here are three switches you can make to live a more sustainable lifestyle.
1. Vegetarian Diet
The production of meat is one of the most significant contributors to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change, responsible for 60% of all greenhouse gas emissions. Raising animals and the entire process behind meat production is far more harmful to the environment than growing fruits and vegetables and creating alternative meat products. Switching to a vegetarian diet may sound difficult at first, but the many meat alternatives available make it easier to adapt to a meat-free diet. Give it a try!
2. Using Reusable Items
Single-use items such as plastic bottles, straws, and plastic bags can end up in the ocean, causing harm to wildlife and marine animals. Replacing these items with eco-friendly reusable ones and paying the extra dollar for reusable items are worth it because they can be used multiple times and are not harmful to the environment.
3. Wearing Sustainable Clothing
Alongside the meat industry, the fast-fashion industry is one of the most harmful industries in the world. It is harmful to the environment, but fast fashion is also highly unethical because workers in developing countries are underpaid, working in unstable conditions to make fast fashion clothing. A better alternative is shopping with sustainable brands or shopping for secondhand clothing at thrift shops or vintage stores.
Living a sustainable lifestyle is better for both the environment and oneself. Eating less meat, using reusable items, and wearing sustainable clothing are just a few changes one can make for a more eco-friendly lifestyle. There is no planet B, so let’s take care of the one we have. Give it a try, and Earth will thank you!
