Let us tell you about the growing formalwear resale brand, Queenly.
With a recession looming and prices of everything from housing to fashion rising at their fastest rate in more than 40 years, brands and consumers are concerned about how this affects finances.
However, the secondhand fashion market has always been a popular choice for savvy fashionistas. With pressure on finances but social media still serving the passion for fresh looks, the secondhand apparel market is the place to be. It’s no surprise that inflation and the increased prices of new have driven more attention to secondhand clothing brands, which is great news for our planet.
We’ve been checking out a popular fashion resale app, Queenly. It’s a fantastic marketplace for resale formalwear, and, according to the brand’s stats, sales doubled between January 2022 and June 2022 and had a booming holiday season in December.
“Resale is the new black for the post-pandemic recession age.”““Resale is the new black for the post-pandemic recession age.”
We spoke to a representative from Queenly about why sustainability and resale fashion is important and what the benefits of buying secondhand apparel are for consumers.
“In today’s society, where fast fashion has become the norm for the masses, it’s even more crucial to put a spotlight on promoting sustainability in the fashion industry. We see that fast fashion companies, such as SHEIN and FashionNova, are dominating the markets with “throwaway fashion,” They are putting zero effort into creating sustainable ways to produce supply and what to do with it afterward. It’s well-known that SHEIN’s clothing contains toxic materials, further spreading microplastics in our environment. The fashion industry accounts for more than 10% of the carbon emissions on the planet, and as fast fashion keeps rising with no pushback, this will only increase over time. Due to their low price points and vast distribution, these companies have done a number on the environment, and social media has only catalyzed its effects.
Resale fashion is so important to promote because it’s the only way we can counter this harmful phenomenon if those fast fashion companies themselves don’t make any effort in being sustainable. Resale has become less taboo over the past few years, and so many companies, such as ourselves (Queenly), have popped up to counter the dangers of fast fashion. It will take a village to fix the harm that has been done to our planet and collectively make sustainable and resale fashion more popular. “
As formalwear is more likely to be garments that people wear only once, maybe a couple of times at the most, buying secondhand makes the most sense. These limited wears also mean the garment retains much of its value and quality, making it perfect for reselling. Brand new formalwear has notoriously been known to cost an arm and a leg, but it’s something that everyone has needed because we all have special occasion events that we need to attend. Buying secondhand with Queenly, you can find the formal dress you love at anywhere from 30-70% of its original retail cost (and no one has to know!) Whenever you wear a dress to an event, people will only focus on how good it looks on you, and no one ever asks about the price or if it’s secondhand.
Formalwear gets the utmost quality in manufacture and user care, so even if bought secondhand, it’s more likely to be in excellent condition. It’s not sustainable – for the planet or our bank accounts – to keep buying thousands of dollars worth of dresses and only wear it once. And it’s also not a good thing to purchase fast fashion dresses that have terrible quality and are only fit to be thrown away afterward. Resale formalwear is definitely the way to go, and Queenly is here to ensure it doesn’t go anywhere!
