Something new and exciting was shown at OVADIA & SONS SS18 presentation this past Thursday. Can you guess what it was? It was brilliant, colorful, and stylish fashion for men. Such an idea seems to have entered the minds of a few designers this Men’s Fashion Week besides the duo behind the brand, twin brothers Ariel and Shimon. Vibrant hued trousers were paired with oversized sweaters and asymmetrical shirts, while side striped slacks were shown with graphic tees. Checkered over coats, metallic jackets, graphic jumpers, and plaid suits paired with printed shirts walked the runway, while wool peacoats, cashmere Henley’s and black monochromatic ensembles did not, thank God. But I must give Ariel and Shimon more credit than I do, for they have accomplished a successful transformation when it comes to their design aesthetic.

At first, a brand that only contributed to the noise that menswear could only be black and white, suits and blazers, anything and everything mundane, has discovered the light of bringing an updated approach to men’s fashion. Since their SS17 collection, OVADIA & SONS has stood as a prime example of change for what could be shown during Men’s New York Fashion Week. Also, how fitting to show the rebirth of menswear at Skylight Clarkson Square, a once highly coveted show space that will no longer serve as a venue for upcoming NYFWs.

As the sun sets on an era, another one begins. OVADIA & SONS presented the future of menswear: colors, textures, prints, patterns and innovative silhouettes all methodically mixed into one ensemble. Time will only tell if menswear designers take note of the genius produced this season by Ariel and Shimon and foster the growth the menswear is currently facing!
