Hair and Makeup Trends in Music Videos

Hair and Makeup trends in music videos.
Naturally, we expect music icons to dictate style through red carpets, interviews and appearances. Quite often we disregard music videos as a target for fashion inspirations assuming they would be unrealistically theatrical. Believe it or not, hidden beneath all the costumes and fictional imagery, is an array of new trends in clothing, but more specifically hair and makeup.
HAIR

BANGS: Music icons ranging from edgy daring Nicki Minaj to feminine graceful Taylor Swift are rocking thick symmetrical bangs. Currently, this trend is taking over music videos of all genres, the look is purely timeless. British sensation Jessie J made it a signature part of her overall image, occasionally refreshing with colorful variations. On the opposite side of the spectrum is a young talent Carly Rae Jepsen taking over the charts with “Call Me Maybe” and radiating an easygoing youthful look with flowy waves and heavy bangs.

CURLS: Good news, ladies! It’s time to finally toss those flattening irons aside; big, curly, borderline frizzy hair is in! We all remember when trendsetting pop diva Madonna came onto the scene in the 80s rocking chaotic side-swept curls tied with a black headband. Several decades later, Rihanna sports a slightly more polished version of the look in her video for “We Found Love.” Breakout pop stars Rita Ora and Christina Perri also chose to go with light effortless waves for their videos. With a recent release of her “Girl Gone Wild” music video, Madonna revealed that she’s not willing to give up the big audacious hairstyle either.
